Most people, myself included, can’t remember the last time they actually wrote a check. But for AP departments, it is the dominant form of payment.
It’s no secret that paper checks are costly. According to the NACHA, it costs an average of $1.22 to process a paper check, a cost that can become quite significant very quickly. Checks are also not slowing down anytime soon–according to a recent Federal Reserve study, 70-90% of all payments made by US small, medium, and middle market companies are made by paper check.
Unfortunately, many online systems are unable to meet the complex needs of businesses. Most bank-offered solutions (i.e. Bill Pay) don’t offer remittance detail, document management, enhanced security features, and most importantly, ERP integration.
