For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we spoke with Kate Zimmerman, Payment Operations Project Specialist at MineralTree. Kate works to help MineralTree customers make the most of our ePayment offerings and spreads knowledge on the benefits and improvements that virtual cards bring to all parties involved in accounts payable.

How did you find out about MineralTree and why did you join?
I was looking to relocate back to the north after living in Charlotte for over a decade. I took a trip up to Boston and fell in love with the city! I started looking around on Glassdoor for tech startups and wanted to find a company with high ratings and reviews, and great benefits. Next thing I know I am relocating to Boston to start my new job at MineralTree!
How has MineralTree enabled you to develop skills and move forward in your career?

We are in an exciting phase not only internally, but also at a time when B2B payments is undergoing a rapid transformation. I am constantly acquiring knowledge in my role on the payments team, and this helps me drive an even greater benefit through our ePayment solutions for our customers.
While a majority of businesses still rely on paper checks for B2B vendor payments, we’ve seen a dramatic shift towards electronic payment methods, especially virtual cards. Whether executing or receiving payments, virtual cards create efficiencies for everyone involved in accounts payable. Beyond the added level of fraud protection, businesses making AP payments on virtual cards experience faster payment processing, cash-back rebates all while eliminating manual tasks. And, contrary to popular belief, transitioning to virtual card payments is a simple process that is easily integrated into an end-to-end AP automation workflow.
In your own words, what do you do at MineralTree?
I help get clients up and running to make electronic payments, and monitor the success of their payments. I provide support, education, and advice on how they can make the most out of our ePayment offerings.
What motivates you to wake up and go to work every day?
It seems like every day is a new challenge and I am constantly learning new things. This keeps me on my toes and the work interesting! And, of course, the people. There is never a day that goes by that I don’t feel like I helped contribute towards the success of our clients or my colleagues – and vice versa! Also, dad jokes, courtesy of my colleagues on a daily basis, are a great motivation.
Which employee perk that MineralTree offers do you enjoy the most? Why?
I enjoy our Friday lunches, not only because of the free food (which is always great), but mainly because it gives me time to unwind and connect with some of the colleagues I don’t always get to work with on a daily basis.
If you had to describe MineralTree in one word, which word would you choose? Why?
Collaborative. I feel like I work in an environment where I can ask questions openly and that we’re all working together towards a common goal.
