MineralTree Employee Spotlight: Caryn Egan, Accounting Manager

sera employee spotlight

“I have seen MineralTree learn and grow so much as a company over the past several years, almost like a third child! From its early stages (with no office or employees) to its rapid acceleration in the market, it has been a truly rewarding experience to see our hard work pay off. I’m so excited for what’s to come for MineralTree – our opportunities are limitless!”

Caryn joined MineralTree as a part-time accountant in February 2011, a year after the company was founded with the vision to transform accounts payable. Since then, she has transitioned into a full-time management role and now leads and mentors a team of accounting and finance professionals.

In her own words

Please provide a brief statement on your experience working at MineralTree and how the company has enabled you to develop skills and move forward in your career.

MineralTree’s fast paced, ever changing environment challenges me to constantly develop. I am pushed to think out of the box and take on new responsibilities while trying to figure out a better way of doing things.

How did you find out about MineralTree and why did you join?

I answered an ad for a part time accountant on Craigslist in January 2011. The company had no office and no employees but I had been working part time after my kids were born and was looking for a new opportunity. Our CEO, BC Krishna, was so enthusiastic and dynamic that I thought I would take a chance to learn something.

In your own words, what do you do at MineralTree?

The first thing that comes to mind is that I always seem to be counting customers but I know that is not the only thing. I manage the accounting process which includes day to day accounts payables/receivables, month-end, key metrics tracking, internal and external reporting, customer tracking and year end audits. As of a month ago, I returned to management responsibilities and am mentoring our newest team members.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work every day?

Wanting to make a difference and do a good job at whatever I do. I believe we are addressing a major industry need, delivering tremendous efficiencies to the very antiquated AP process.

Which employee perk that MineralTree offers do you enjoy the most? Why?

I like MineralTree’s flexibility in managing my schedule. I have two boys who were in elementary school when I started. Now they are in high school and we are starting to think about college. Being part of their school/after school life is a gift and extremely important to me.

If you had to describe MineralTree in one word, which word would you choose? Why?

Surprising. I have seen the product and direction of the company evolve in so many ways. Each move is a surprise but always for the better, and the solution we’ve built today truly helps growing companies optimize their AP and payment efficiency. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
